Life Sucks!

What do you do when you have a sucky life!? I have a certain teenage daughter that is absolutely bored with her life here at home. We never do anything, we just sit here and do nothing...(even though i am exhausted) she mopes around all day not doing much of anything. If i were to let her play on the computer all day she would be happy! and what about school!? Who knows! Perhaps she needs to be IN school....
Then there is Jacob...just turned 12. Can easily be brought to tears over the silliest things....I don't think i am going to survive the teenage years! good thing Timmy wont be a teen for 6 more years!
sigh.....

School might be a good thing for her...

How 'bout a job for the bored one? Theo started at Wendy's when he was 14. Of course, that was 13 years ago and the government may have gotten more control by now.

Can she take up sewing? Make her own clothes? Babysit for pay? Volunteer somewhere?

Does she have enough chores? I never cleaned a thing when I had teenagers in the house -- that was there job and I REALLY miss all that free labor now : ) I actually miss them too!

but there arent any good schools around...

I dont think I can get a job until i'm 15 or 16. I still count as a minor. I already babysit :P

And I do have chores to do but i just have to *redo* them again an hour later so that gets frustrating.

Labor Laws for Minors

Maybe you need to be temporarily "adopted" someplace where there are good schools. Kill two birds with one stone for your mom. ;)

I volunteered in a flower shop when I was 14. It did not pay, but I got work experience and all that good stuff to add to upcoming college applications and job applications. Plus I got a reference letter from someone who was not a family member or friend, but a "boss".

Barb...I don't think i could send Emily off that easily. I kinda like her! Even if it did kill two birds...

Volunteering might help. I know that when my teens have gotten moody giving them more do do has usually been a big help.
Does your library or a local museum accept teen volunteers? Or is there a nursing home where she could hang out? I know that the folks at my grandma's nursing home always appreciate when my kids come in and sit with them and sing hymns with them or just listen to them.

(The side effect of the nursing home visits is that they seem to bring an automatic attitude adjustment.)

I never thought I'd say it, but school for the final 2 years has been a good decision for Caleb. He is very busy.

Jane,
we did sign her up several years ago to be on the teen advisory board at the local library. In the long run i was happy they never called her. They have a lot of police activity at that library... :o/ We have since changed libraries. I don't have any connections to nursing homes. there are several in the area. She would much rather muck horse stalls, but unfortunately we don't have any near by...
